Being A Student In Republic Of Congo: 2016 vs 2017 – What Has Changed?
The world is changing at such a rapid rate that countries must remain up-to-date with the latest educational changes. Education has become one of the most important factors in the lives of young people as it establishes a strong foundation on which they can build their future. Therefore, universities must be receptive to change, implement new facilities and respond to the changing requirements of students. In Congo, there have been a number of changes to academic study between 2016 and 2017, and in this post, we will guide you through some of the main changes:
• Basic Education
Basic Education is a fundamental right of all. In Congo, most children are deprived of a basic right of an education. At a basic level, there are not sufficient resources and learning materials such as books and facilities required for a good education. Due to instability in the country, the government doesn’t seem to place education at the forefront of its policies.
The Republic of Congo has been plagued by intense civil war and internal conflict since the outbreak of fighting in 1998. As a result, there have been close to 5.4 million deaths, according to the International Rescue Committee. Most deaths resulted from non-violent causes such as malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia and malnutrition, all typically preventable under normal circumstances but often fatal in times of conflict. Close to 1.5 million people have been internally displaced or have become refugees in neighbouring countries after fleeing the country to escape continued violence.
• Higher Education
Higher Education tells the same story. Little is being done to improve educational standards. Students do not have access to career development guidance or other opportunities to develop their skills.
• New Enrollments
In Congo, new enrollments were at a new low in 2016, but in 2017, the Vodafone Foundation announced that it would fund the education for five million African children. This strategy aims to extend educational provision throughout Africa, focusing in areas where primary school enrolment is particularly low.
In an ever-changing world, although they may be small, positive steps are being taken to improve the educational standards in Congo. Although they may be small in comparison with the rest of the world, initiatives such as those being implemented by Vodafone are playing a key role in improving the prospects for children and young people in Africa.
