This Quality Guide aims to give our new writers guidelines to follow when writing an assignment or paper answer. In this guide, you will find descriptions and requirements for both undergraduate and graduate level papers and details of the different requirements you have to meet based on the quality of the paper requested by the client.

Furthermore, this guide gives you tips on how to carry out research for assignments you undertake, how to avoid plagiarising and how to ensure that correct referencing styles are used.

Undergraduate Paper

When you are writing a paper for graduate or undergraduate level papers, the writer should be very specific and include all the facts, figures and information that is required by the client and the client’s course instructor (which may be given by the client). The written answer should specifically answer the question and not stray from the answer. The best way to do this is to first create a structural outline of the various topics that need to be covered in order to address the question. Then, the writer should discuss each of these topics in general, closing in on the topic in a specific and comprehensive manner.Using specific examples will no doubt help get the point across more clearly.

The writer should also ensure to connect each topic to the next in a logical manner so the answer flows smoothly. Always ensure to end the assignment in a conclusive manner, either by summarising the points that were discussed or your point of view, whichever is set out in the client’s request. If it is a company study, recommendations could be given as to how the company could proceed and what strategic options are available to it and why. The paper should be proof read, written using the appropriate academic style and well presented.

Graduate Paper

A graduate level paper should include everything that has been stated above and more. The writer should research the subject thoroughly and ensure the answer demonstrates an in-depth and rounded knowledge of the topic. The writer should answer all the questions in a balanced and well-researched manner, critically analysing and debating any identified key issues. The answer should not simply quote other writers and theorists but should also include the writer’s thoughts, ideas and suggestions, as well as the writer’s stance on the key issues. Also, views of different authors should be compared and contrasted to identify any potential debates and disagreements. The author could then mention which ideas he supports and why. The importance of examples cannot be over-emphasised in a master’s level answer. The writer should make extensive use of researched material and demonstrate his or her ability to analyse the material in an unbiased manner. Further additional material to support the answer should be included in the appendix. A graduate paper would use more sources and publications.

As in the undergraduate paper, the assignment should be proof read, written using the appropriate academic style and well presented.

Standard

1st Class (A quality) – Undergraduate Level

When a client requests an A quality, or a 1st class assignment, the paper should meet the following criteria as a minimum:

  • The assignment should have impeccable clarity and indicate an in-depth knowledge of the subject.
  • The arguments put forth by the author should be original and logical in nature.
  • The paper should be excellently presented and indicate the writer’s in-depth understanding of the question and issues.
  • The answer should also indicate the writer’s ability to exercise independent thought on the related issues. 1st Class (A quality) – Graduate Level

When a client requests an A quality or 1st Class assignment for a graduate or masters level program, such a paper should meet all the requirements set out above, plus the following criteria as a minimum

  • The vocabulary should be appropriate to a graduate level paper and the writer’s language skills should portray an excellent command of the English language.
  • Discussions, analysis and criticisms of the identified issues should be in-depth and of show the writer’s comprehensive knowledge of the subject.
  • Thoughts and ideas should be structured and communicated in the most logical and easy to understand manner.
  • The writer should be able to communicate very complex thoughts and ideas in a simple and easy to understand manner.
  • All concepts and theories should be logically linked to the identified issues and there should be wide use of examples to further clarify the writer’s point of view.

  • The writer’s opinions and point of view should be unbiased and well supported.

2:1 Standard (B quality) – Undergraduate Level

When a client requests a B quality assignment or a 2:1 standard assignment for an undergraduate level program, the paper should meet following criteria as a minimum:

  • The writer should demonstrate the ability to identify important issues and debates.
  • The answer should demonstrate the writer’s ability to develop a solid argument based on the identified issues.
  • The writer should indicate a thorough knowledge of the subject and have the ability to communicate thoughts, suggestions and ideas on the subject with clarity and in a confident manner.
  • The answer should draw conclusions from the identified issues.
  • There should be rich arguments and the author’s unbiased opinions should be communicated appropriately.
  • The answer should critically analyse the identified issues by comparing and contrasting them.

  • There should be the use of appropriate academic writing styles with a well-presented argument.
  • There should be no spelling, punctuation or grammatical mistakes.

2:1 Standard (B quality) – Graduate Level

  • The answer should demonstrate a well-developed argument, taking into account at least two different points of view.
  • The writer should demonstrate an ability to exercise some amount of analytical skill along with some independent thoughts.
  • The answer should use some examples and research material to support the argument in a logical and clear manner.
  • The writer should be able to demonstrate an average to good knowledge of the subject and be able to communicate the concepts and theories in an appropriate manner.

Research

Researching your work is the most important task when writing a paper. The quality of your research often will dictate the quality of your paper and therefore writers should make every effort to carry out extensive research and base their answers on this research.

As a rule, Wikipedia should not be cited to support arguments or points of view and could only be used as an auxiliary source of factual information. Also, authors must not rework other assignments previously completed.

In this section we will give you some tips on how to research your subject appropriately.

Initial research

  • Read the client’s requirements and understand the question. Do you need to discuss an issue, do you need to analyse a topic or research an article?
  • Depending on the question, you should identify key issues, formulate your research strategy and understand the research requirements.
  • If the client has given specific instructions on the research sources that should be used, use the recommended sources and any other supplementary research only if necessary.
  • When researching material for a paper, it is essential to keep in mind the academic level that the paper is required for and also the standard that the client has requested.
  • Ensure the research sources and are up to date and recent, within the last five years if possible and not older than ten years is recommended, unless used for purely factual purposes.
  • Look for a variety of research sources and do not rely on web sources only. Internet sources alone are insufficient, look for peer reviewed journal articles, books, scholarly journals and magazines and government sources.
  • Google scholar and Amazon are good sources, as they allow you to search inside published books.
  • Once the initial research is completed, it is now time to move on to the in-depth research.

In-depth research

  • Go through the research material you gathered during the initial stage.
  • Select the leading sources or the ones most focused on the area you are researching.
  • Look at the different materials those authors have used in their research as well as any recommended reading. Look up those sources and carry out a more in depth research into the subject.
  • Look for material that not only discusses the topic you are researching but argues for and against it as well.This will give you a rounded view of the entire subject.
  • Remember to keep an open mind when researching a topic and do not jump to conclusions or make a judgment on an issue either way until all the research is carried out.
  • If you have too much information – prioritise your information in order of prominence of writer, date of publication and new findings on the subject.
  • Read through the question and the key issues again and read through the gathered information.
  • Decide what information is most useful and should be used and what research can be discarded. Remember to use all the client’s recommended sources and read through the research the client or the client’s supervisor has recommended.
  • Once you have read through all the relevant research you can now formulate a structure or outline for your answer.
  • You can now type in notes to your skeleton structure by adding text from your research.Always remember to reference all the material in the body even though it is only an outline and not the complete answer.By doing so you will avoid any oversights on your part.   • Read through your outline and check if you have sufficient information and material, or need to research further. If you think your research is sufficient, you can now start writing the final draft of your paper.

Writing Style

  • When writing a paper, it is essential to keep in mind the academic level required and also the standard the client has requested.
  • Whatever level or standard you are writing for, your answer should be factually accurate, to the point, clear and concise. Plenty of examples should be used to illustrate your ideas.
  • Clients pay a premium according to the standard they request and according to the number of words they require; therefore the answer should not be repetitive or lacking in content and material.
  • Even though the answer you are writing may not require the 1st class standard, it is always best to aim for a standard higher than requested in order to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • There should be no use of slang or colloquialisms. Rather, the language used should be of a professional standard, high in quality and reflect the academic level required by the client.
  • However, this does not mean that the paper should be highbrow, but rather it should have the correct balance of ease of understanding and formality at the same time.
  • The papers should not paraphrase or borrow heavily from the research material. On the contrary, it should be analytical and should demonstrate the writer’s ability to exercise independent thought as required by the standard requested by the client.
  • Lastly, it is always best to keep in mind that clients use the writer’s work as a guide to formulate their own answers.Therefore, it is best to present the material in a clear and easy to understand manner. The entire paper should be of value to the client and not just parts of it.

Avoiding Plagiarism

The common misconception about plagiarism is that it relates only to the act of cutting and pasting whole chapters or paragraphs of published articles, journals and books. However this is not the case.All of the following actions can be considered as plagiarism in one form or the other and should be avoided at all costs.

  • Passing off the thoughts, ideas and suggestions of another as you own.
  • Passing off the words, whether in the original context or by paraphrasing it without citation, as your own.
  • Quoting from a text and failing to indicate the quote with the use of quotation marks.
  • Rewording a passage but retaining the original style, ideas, thoughts and suggestions of the author and not citing the source.
  • Copying proportionately huge amounts of texts, even if it is correctly cited.
  • Incorrectly citing the source.

While the above is not an exhaustive list, writers should take special care to ensure that their work is original and credit is given completely wherever any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, or material have been borrowed. It is also not acceptable that writers re-use any work that they have completed for this organisation or any other organisation, by rewording and paraphrasing it.

Referencing requirements

All work submitted should be appropriately referenced. If a paper is of outstanding quality, but does not meet referencing guidelines and standards, then the answer is of no use to the client. Given below are some tips to follow:

  • Give high priority to the client’s recommended sources of reference.
  • If the client has sent any information he wishes you to include in the answer, include it and reference it appropriately.
  • Ensure that the referencing style requested by the client is used throughout the answer.
  • Research should be relevant to the subject and specific to the topic you are writing on.
  • Your opinions and thoughts should be supported with high quality sources of reference.
  • You should use a variety of reference sources and not rely on the Internet alone.
  • A good paper will have no more than 25 per cent of Internet websites as sources of reference, unless the client specifically requests more.
  • A minimum of one reference should be used for every 100 words of text, up to 5000 words. If your paper is more than 5000 words then a minimum of one reference should be used for every 200 words of text.
  • References and bibliography do not count in the total number of words that the client has requested for the paper.
